Would it be asking too much to hunt Sunday and then the following Wednesday? Horse was fully hunting fit until the snow, but then had two weeks off in the field. Will have been back in work for six days by Sunday. Hunting is with the bloodhounds and usually out for about 3 hours.

just depends on how well he has held is fitness all horses are different mine does 2days a week every week apart from cancelled meets he had about 11 days off and half or maybe more of that stuck in stable cos of ice on yard not able to get to paddocks. just "be kind" and ride sensible you will be fine.

i would normally quite often hunt a sunday and then a wed with no probs so at this time it would depend on how much fitness i thought had been lost. depending on how well i knew the hunt i might just do a couple of lines on each day if i thought fitness was lacking.

Mine are out Saturday and Monday but they will be short days of max 2 hours depending on how fast the hounds go..they were hunting fit and last went 13 and 15 Dec. School has enabled them to be ridden 5 times a week since and a long hack today inc the long steep hill reassures me they will be fine as long as i pay attention to when they get tired then its an early bath all round :) hope Pops has fun :D would a small haircut help keep him more comfortable? mine are being reclipped tomorrow :D

Thanks all! Seems it might be possible - just wanted opinions as I am arbitrating with daughter and husband over this, as they both want to take him out! Will see how he copes on Sunday and make a decision after that.

DDD - yes, will have to bite the bullet and get the vet out as we were told that he needs sedation, which is why I have put the evil moment off as long as possible! Sod's law though, means it will snow again as soon as he gets done.

Oh poo, i didnt realise he needed sedating- io is the same as i can clip his body/tummy and back end without a murmer but the minute i creep towaqrds his neck he gets so upset shaking and sweating that he needs the vet :( that stops clipping being a half hour job when you feel like it..is it worth trying a bib or even just take the neck off with OH holding a twitch?
Whatever you do- have fun :) we've just finished tack cleaning for tomorrow :D

If it were me, I'd say yes to both but only a couple of hours each day providing of course, he pulls out sound and not stiff on Monday so tell whoever is jockey on Sunday to be careful else the other one won't talk to them for weeks!.
