Pippa went in for the lameness clinic 7 weeks ago. She had a steroid injection into her right foot as the vet suspected she had inflammation of the lateral collateral ligament of the coffin joint. When she was home she was on box rest for 3 days and then had bar-shoes on. She then was on restricted turnout.
Fast forward to the 27th of Feb when the vet reassessed her. She was sound on both hard and soft ground so the vet was happy for me to bring her back into work, preferabley hacking. I built up her workload from 10 minutes walking, to 20 minutes walk and trot. Last weekend, after being in work for 3 weeks, I introduced her to the school again walking for 15 minutes with a short trot to see how she'd react - she was sound.
The steroids have worn off now (as my vet said "don't get the champagne and pary poppers out because she could still potentially go lame whilst you're bringing her into work") and is sound even after doing the wall of death in the field and being ridden. My vet told me after two weeks of being in work if she is sound then I can forget about it all and carry on as I would, but I don't know if what we're doing is too much/too little... I just want your opinions really... I'm a big worrier
Before her injury she was being schooled 4/5 times per week for an hour, 1hour/2hour hacks on roads, with galloping in the odd field and jumping 3ft-ish fences.
