Well you all heard how i got dougal from WHW and he is doing great, even got him lunging now and called him across the yard yesterday where he came back to me.

Saddest thing is in jan this year with all the snow i was feeding hay to 2 horses, well 1 thin hunter and a wee 13h pony who were in a field that was partially flooded with no drinking water bar what was flooded and no grass, after leaving a note i got a reply a week later from the owner to say she had been away and someone was supposed to be looking afta them and they obviously hadnt or were not giving enough for the horses requirements to try and keep warm because there were no telltale signs that someone had been there. We met up and she thanked me and moved the two because folks in the area were leaving threatening notices to get the RSPCA involved, yes it was a dire situation.

The pony is back in the field without the hunter so i sent a text and guess what she wants to sell this pony who is a lovely chestnut gelding, her son doesnt want to ride anymore, he is welsh looking and apparently did pony club, but i now have dougal and cant afford another but i fell in love with him when he was so cold and soaking wet during that dreadful weather, what do i do, i would feel so bad if i sent dougal back esp when he is just coming in to himself, but you know when you have a bond with a horse that doesnt come from anywhere.

Lets just say dougal isnt going anywhere, and i hope this lovely pony finds a nice home, she has asked me if i know of anyone looking, yes i want him but cant have him, life is so hard

Could you afford to get the chestnut if you had a sharer? Or move to a cheaper yard? Cut back on extras? Sounds like you really love this horse would be a shame not to give it ago. Would the owner possibly let you loan him for a short while as even though you've for him he maybe a pain to ride perhaps. I've been in your situation before and went for it, found a cheaper yard (which actually had a lot more extras then my last yard, and hay and straw were included) did an extra shift or two at work here and there and it worked. Had them both barefoot, bought second hand rugs, sold off things I didn't need anymore, but it did work really well, and I would defo do it again :)

Thanks costypop, well the lady wants £1000 for the pony and wont consider loan at all, even though i know he is just an extra mouth to feed, or not, she is adament she is going to sell him to a family with children so i just asked her to call me if she changes her mind. I hope he finds a wonderful home.

Do you not think that in the current climate, and time of year she might find she can't afford to be too picky about whether he goes to a family with children? She might even have to bring the price down. It's a bad time for selling ponies. :(

sounds like she is playing you,,, making you feel sorry for the pony but keeping the price up in the hope you dig deep and find the money.

most important thing is not to land yourself with ponies you cannot afford to keep both financially and time wise.

i think you should keep walking.

untried, unvetted, not recently in work 13hh pony a £1000 is well overpriced anyway IMO

I have seen pony in the field for 2 years now. She told me she has had him for 10 years, but could give me his actual age, so could be 20 or could be 10, he looks well, doesnt look old and decrepid, but amymay if u r interested pm for her no.

I could afford it, but i wouldnt be so silly to put my finances up like that, it is just that if i had known about him before dougal i would probably have gone for him, but dougal got lucky instead. Just hope he finds a nice caring home.

Oh no, not interested. Offer her £50. She'd get no more for him at market.
