I can have a new hacking jacket that is too big across the shoulders and generally is fairly loose (but not massively so) or the next size down that fits nicely everywhere apart from the bottom button is about an inch too tight, which causes some rucking of the back.

Those of you who have had their jackets from new - do they give much - my work jackets are a bit tight after they have been cleaned but then loosen up.

And if it doesn't give much would it be better to go for the larger or smaller size? Sadly I can't afford made to measure.

Unless you can safely move the button I would go for the looser of the two. There is nothing worse than someone squeezed into clothes that dont quite fit. Plus you may well be wearing it in searing summer temps and the last thing you need is to feel overheated.

The button is fairly near the edge - the woman selling it says that Mears might be willing to ease it a bit at the waist. Its a shame as it looks great everywhere else and the other one needs shortening where it sags at the shoulders

Or I could try doing a hundred sit ups a day to pull my tummy in an inch!

I sometimes wonder if my children realise the sacrifices I have made for them.........

If its a Mears you may well be onto a winner. Get in touch with them and see if they will do it for you. I had my jacket sleeves shortened by them many years ago and they managed to get the elbow bends in the right place which impressed me!!

I cant blame children.....I blame Cadburys!

Actually I was thinking about not being able to afford a made to measure jacket ...... but I might as well blame my huge waist on them as well

(or the two cesareans I had to have!)
