My Sec D has got a lump on his face,we first noticed it in June took him to the vets who took an x ray which showed an infection in the root area of one of his teeth. He removed the tooth, gave him antibiotics and he recovered very well. The vet did say the lump would take a while to go down, but last Sunday the lump had got bigger, again took him down to the vets,x rayed him and there was an infection behind two of the teeth next to the one that was removed(this had healed well)hence the swelling getting bigger. He doesn't want to take those two teeth out as it might well affect his ability to chew hay so has put him on Karidox and said to watch for colic or he might go off his food. The vet prefers him to have it syringed into his mouth, this is impossible he just rears,or as a last resort put it in his food, which we are doing but he isn't too keen on eating it.He has gone off his haylage completely but will eat grass.Has anyone got any feedback on this drug and any tips to get him eating?Sorry to go on a bit but thought I'd give all the facts!

A horse on my yard has had the same thing. Two days ago the abcess burst through the skin under his jaw. It is now draining and he is able to eat again and the stuff they were trying to squirt into his mouth (rearing etc.) can now be squirted directly into the gaping wound. This little horse was very poorly and lost a lot of condition but is eating properly now he is no longer in pain.
Good luck with your horse.

The problem with mine is it is one of his top teeth and the vet says there is no where for the puss to go because of where the teeth are.My horse is very overweight, which at times like this is a good thing,he has enough to lose! I hope he brightens up as he is so miserable.
