Morning all. Would be interested in hearing your opinions about Top Spec Senior Balancer. Just thinking ahead, my boy's having a test for Cushings next week just to eliminate that cause for his loss of muscle tone and topline. If the test comes back negative, I've been advised to try him on the Top Spec Senior Balancer as he is 22, to try and get that topline back. Would you feed the balancer on its' own added to the normal feed or add more supplements? According to the website these are not necessary. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

If there are any kind of muscle problems, my current thoughts (based on 5 ponies who all have muscle problems, and whose progress I'm tracking by means of blood tests of their muscle enzyme levels) are to stick with a balancer that provides a good level of organic selenium (known as selenium yeast).

I say this because my ponies showed significant improvements in muscle enzyme levels 4-5 months after starting 2 months of selenium yeast supplementation, whereas after a further 11 months on a balancer with inorganic selenium (sodium selenite) their muscle enzymes either showed no further improvement or actually worsened.

In addition, selenium yeast is well documented as being more bioavailable than inorganic.

So personally I would look at Blue Chip Original, given what my gang have been through.

I swapped my 26 year old onto Top Spec senior balancer a few months ago, having had an indepth discussion with their nutritionist.

"In for a penny, in for a pound" was my attitude and I have gone with their suggested diet which has taken out all other cereal based products with the exception of their Turbo Flakes. At the moment he's just on the balancer, the flakes and a handful of Alfa Oil. During the winter or if he needs more energy he will also have the Cool Condition cubes.

I've not used Top Spec before but have been really pleased with the results - although he was already in pretty good condition and well muscled, he is even more sparkly and bright on it without being daft and I think his muscle tone is pretty good for his age:

Why not give them a ring and see what they recommend?
