Is it REALLY all it's cracked up to be? I called them earlier and was advised that B should be on the balancer and the cool conditioning cubes and that H should be on the balancer. But the balancer is SOOOOO expensive.....

I have LOADS of Clop and Selenavite E and seaweed. IMO I think I should continue on the path I am on, at least until I have used up these supplements - H is on the Clop, B is on the other 2.

All thoughts welcomed - though be nice!

You know me! It's Blue Chip for me (or mine!) all the way. Have tried Top Spec and TBH, was not impressed even though I gave it a 3 bag trial - I noticed the difference within a bag of starting BC!

You feed such little quantities of either of them, by the time you've added up all the different supplements plus your little trips to buy them all and the convenience of having it all in one bag, I don't think you'd notice much difference price wise and you'd be able to cut down any hard feed once you get them right; B would probably be on 1 to 2 cupfuls and H on 1 and a bit just once a day (I always feed it at night only though you can divide it if you wish) so I imagine a sack will last you a month or thereabouts.

I always feed it before weaning and keep them on it until they go back out 24/7 in the spring; it has made a vast difference to how my lot come through that and the winter; coatwise they could be shown but I never let them chunk up enough for the judges to do it! The mares go on it the end of February until they go back to stud 3 weeks after foaling whenever that might be; the only other supplement the mares get is Kossolian but the youngsters have just BC and their normal feed.

I know there are a lot on here that swear by TS but it didn't work for mine so I can only speak as I find.

Two bags aren't going to break the bank are they, if it doesn't make a difference then go back to your potions!!

I don't think it's that expensive when you think you don't have to feed any other suppliments. It work out for my 14.2 a 'pint' a day and lasts about 3 months. I had it primarily for his feet but he looks so well on it, I was more than impressed!

Mine on on topspec but i also think the balancers are all pretty much the same. I use topspec because it has msm in it as well which i dont think some of the others do.

Our YO uses it for all hers too and has used it on poor horses with amazing results.

I just like to know i feed one thing and Red gets everything he needs without messing about with this and that feeds. Red gets a pot of balancer and happy hoof - thats it. Occasionally he gets carrots and apples in his feed for a treat! When it gets cooler he will get speedibeet to to help prevent weight loss. Red has been on it almost 4 months, hooves are getting better, coat is amazing and he is looking like a different horse from when he came.

I would reccomend. Plus the price is deceiving, its expensive but lasts a while so if you had to feed other feeds and added up the cost i think its cost effective!

Thank you all for your responces! Once I have usde up what I already have, I will change over to either BC or TS. I've just had a load of info through the post from TS. Will ring BC and see what they say too.

I really rate Topspec, really made G look fab last year. Only stopped feeding it because he needed more umph and he was getting required levels of comp mix and pro pell plus so didnt need topspec. Excellent when wasnt being fed anything else, and was just being backed/shown.

S is going as well and looking as well on Soaked oats, maize, speedi-beet, alfalfa and soya oil as she did on TS balancer and Bailey's No.4...and it's about 1/4 of the price of the "branded" stuff.....

i was worried about price too, but i looked on the website how much a horse of relevant size needs, then worked out the daily cost, and its about 70pfor mine, id spend that on chocolate!

I love top spec, it really works! i haven't tried blue chip as i was so impressed with the top spec. A sack lasts my 16.1 about a month and a half, so i don't think it works out too expensive.
I have also had great results with Balanced Horse Feeds Show Mix, which contains a full balancer and is about £8.50 a bag.

IMO Yes it is. For a 500kg horse the balancer works out at 75p/day. I've seen a huge difference in Pidge from when I got him and his feet have improved tremendously and if you feed the balancer there is no need for a foot supplement. At the end of the day it is personal choice but I am very pleased with TS products, I used the super conditioning flakes for a year and now he is up to weight I have got him on the cool and condition cubes.
All he has now is feed balancer, cool cubes, alfa a, garlic and naf dtox for his mild stringhalt, so not to expensive to feed.
