Hello

So I have the rubber feed buckets and they are quite old now but still do the job however despite giving them daily scrubs they don't look clean I think they need to be soaked in something but the question is what, I think I did read somewhere baking soda and vinegar have you heard of that ? or should I just not be such a tight git and go buy some more ;) With my shire x beastie plastic buckets are not an option :D

All tips gratefully received

I'm giving up on mine this year and buying new ones. They've started to lose the top layer of rubber and are really rough so everything sticks to them. It can't be hygenic.

One of them was originally Ebony's though and he's been dead 17 years so I think I've had my money's worth!

Baking soda and vinegar is a very good cleaning agent in general though. It's worth a try. There will be all sorts of recipes on the the internet.

I soak them in fairy liquid and boiling water overnight and then power wash and repeat until they're clean but sometimes it's just damage and not actually dirt.

I left one outside for a few weeks once full of rain water, it had some pretty ground in grim in it. I rinsed it out and its good as new, not sure I want to know whats in our rain water!!
That works with normal water too. The secret is to leave it for a long time. Failing that, boiling water, then leave til cool and scrub with a stiff brush also works.

I found that in the end, the rubber started to break down, possibly because I fed with oil.

I replaced mine with blue trugs, as they are bright enough that I can see if they are properly clean. Other colours are available LOL. They just don't seem to be as porous. Still safe if they tread on them. They are lighter, which is great for me to carry, but does mean that, if it is windy, I have to collect them straight in.
