Top tips on how to get my hippo horse clean!?!

Havn't ridden over the winter but friend and I planning to go for a short hack tomorrow. Horse has had a lightweight rug on so saddle area is clean but his head is very muddy.

So any top tips to get rid of caked on mud so he can wear his bridle

Mine is a newly transformed hippo as of today got him in and he was up to the tips of his forward pointing ears in dried on, thick mud and looking very happy about it!

I gave him a gentle rub with my fingers to get the worst off his face then used my soft face brush to get the rest off. I cupped my hand over his eyes (one at a time ) so the mud dust didn't blow back into them as it was really windy at my yard today. I had much more issues with his girth area, big stuck on blobs hanging from his hair! and even my flick brush didn't make a dent in them
