What are your top tips and pet hates for turn out?

My pet hate is flash nosebands done up so the end is tucked in the flash attachment.

I am not sure I have a top tip......other than don't polish the seat of your synthetic saddle with furniture polish!

emmm not sure about pet hates other than a horse covered in every contraption under the sun and looking very tense and uncomfortable (my old YO horse had everything and anything attached to it) i rode it in a snaffle bridle with a light contact and she was and angle when YO rode it in all its gadgets it looked like a giraff(sp) and skipped around lol

Oil hooves the day before the show, then use petroleum jelly on the day - less chance of ruining your clean jods/shirt!

second that!

My top tip would be ace bleach for white tails (nowhere where it can make contact with the skin) make sure you wash it all out and then condition and comb through if you wish. Also tail bag for travelling a horse with a light coloured tail.

Pet hate is greys/coloureds with stable stains and horses with their bedding still in their tail as well as reins with rein stops when they are not wearing a martingale and brightly coloured numnahs oh and riders not tying their hair up or wearing a hairnet!

Talcum powder works just as well as chalk.

Wetwipes, never go anywhere without them.

Hairspray to set quarter marks.

Boot polish: Don't polish the 'horse' side of your boots, use dubbin instead (I used to polish my boots so badly

that my hubby would spend hours bulling them for me

)

Spare pair of 'show stirrups' no everyday muck to clean off.

My favourite: Get a groom.

My husbands favourite: All the P's, familiar, no doubt to anyone with Forces connections, (Prior Preparation and Planning Prevents P*** Poor Performance)

Happy Showing.

Second the wetwipes - brilliant things with so many uses!

Hate seeing flash straps done up WAY too low (same with grakles) and way too tight.

Hate seeing little children riding ponies with dutch gags (reins on 3rd hole) when the pony is the opposite of strong!

Oh and white hairs on a black horse. I share rugs with 2 of my horses which is SUCH a bad idea, at shows I take off the rug and my black horse is covered in white. Drives me nuts.

For silver / white tails, I wash with Tesco's own brand shampoo and leave it in while I wash elsewhere then rinse out and shampoo again. Seems to bring my boys tail up nice and white. If it's seriously filthy then I use the purple shampoo meant for old ladies grey hair! (like blue dye)
