I used butox swish, an invermetin wormer and frontline drops. Worked really well on a horrible chronic case. I looked into topical ivermectin but couldnt easily find something, so went for the easy multiple hit approach and it worked amazingly
Yes I have when I first got my cob my first I had no idea that feather harboured mites when I asked my vet why he stamped like that I was horrified .
I clipped his legs and was given ivermectin lotion it stopped the uncomfortable stamping within two days .
His skin was all damaged and thickened and red that took time to sort.we keep him clipped all year and it's no issue now.
I have also used it round the bum and dock to deal with pin worm once daily everyday for a month.
Both treatments sound different to the topical ivermectin. A friend has a cob with loads of feather shes Always stamping and treated with frontline which is expensive compared to ivermectin. Ifs its frontline she needs then no problem but a American friend said they use ivermectin which lasts longer and works faster.
You can do an ivermectin wash but to get it to stick you need to add something to it, the latest idea (or was when I last checked) from Liverpool is to mix it with propylene glycol and then mix with hot (as hot as you can comfortably hold your hand in) and wash feathers, don't rinse. I use 20ml ivermectin, 200ml propylene glycol and 2l water, that washes 4 quite heavy feathered legs. The trick is to take your time and make sure you get it down to the skin I use a sponge and work methodically down the feathers in sections.
Oh we've done that for years and it has no effect now at all. The ivermectin wash is brilliant and I knew someone on here had the recipe - just needed to make sure I could find it 😊
