Ok hubby has today topped very long grass in about half acre paddock for Cat then later Will to go onto next weekend. There was way too much to collect the cuttings so we have left them for the time being.

Forecast for next few days is hot and dry so would it do any harm to just let the cuttings dry out in situ so long as there are no piles? Am well aware of the dangers of fermenting cuttings hence the question but surely dried grass like Readigrass for example is just chopped dried grass?

Help I don't want to kill my neddies during the first week on our own yard!

I've always given it 2 weeks before putting mine back on a topped field. If it's just a few rough patchs then i think you'd be ok after a few dry days but if it's the whole field then it's better to be safe than sorry.

I once made the mistake of taking down a lot of nettles with the horses let back in the field the same day. I had done this loads of times before, BUT not with the greedy ShireXClydesdale in there before. She stuffed her face with wilted nettles until she gave herself an impaction (presumably as a result of the amount of fibrous material in nettles) So I would be careful if it is not just grass.

It'll just dry out and become hay, albeit tiny chaffy bits of hay.

That's what I'd thought thanks Tia, Ill just kick the lumps to scatter them!
