I have just got s new horse and he is on both of the above but reading the topspec website and it says the balancer has the same biotin level as the supplement. It the additional supplement a waste of money?

Do you mean you're feeding both top spec balancer and farriers formula?
My understanding is that they're both balancers in which case you shouldn't be feeding them both together. By feeding them both you're doubling up on all V&M allowances which is not only a waste of money but could cause nutritional problems by overdosing on some minerals.

There is no need to feed both, it would be a waste of money. They are both very good products in their own right. I once fed FF because I wanted my horse's feet to grow faster. It did not work for her, however feeding top spec did (make her feet grow). she also looked fabulous in all other aspects. Her only other food was grass, haylage and D&H Safe and Sound and she was a big TB.

Feed one or the other.

Farriers Formula is a complete supplement and adding anything to it will unbalance the levels of vits & mins. I haven't used Topspec but the same will apply, you will be overdosing on vits & mins by feeding both - at best wasting your money and at worst unintentionally causing problems for your horse.
