I have just started my three lads on topspec antilam which they seem to love. They didn't like the topspec all in one supplement which is what we tried first. They are all good do-ers and would not ever get feed the normal ration of feed hence need to use a balancer.

My dilemma is that feeding at the recommended rate of 100g per 100kg means that a 20kg sack will last me ten days which equates to approx £100 per month

I have three horses (approx 800kg, 700kg and 500kg)

Is there anything else equivalent on the feed market which doesn't hit the pocket quite so hard?

About to have a chat with the topspec rep to see what they say

Looking at pro hoof.

What is the recommended feed rate? Only finding this information rather than recommended feed rate per 100kg of horse?
Horses 1 (75ml)*scoop per day
Ponies 1/2 - 1 scoop per day

This works at £2-80 per day for my three if going by above advice but suspect my larger two would need more than above

Anyone able to confirm what it says on the bag?

Spillers lite balancer,I pay £16.95 a 20kg bag which lasts my 2 nearly 20 days at 100gm per 100kg low sugar and starch and high spec minerals and vits just need to add salt daily

Just use a powdered vit and mineral supplement if they are good doers. I use Equine Answers 365 and only need to give 20g a day so a £18 tub lasts me nearly 2 months for one horse. I used to feed him a Tope Spec balancer but he put on weight and it gave him way too much energy!! He also wouldn't eat the Top Spec All in One in his chaff.

How about just not feeding them at all? The last thing a laminitis prone horse needs is hard feed.

My horses have never had laminitis so thanks for your input. So you would rather I don't provide vitamin and minerals to my three boys one of which is a growing two year old!?

Think you misread my original post where I said that I was looking at something as a feed balancer as they are all good doers and they are not on anti-lam because they are prone to laminitis

Thanks will investigate that option. Mine have free access to a salt lick so would you still want to add salt to their feed?

I had wondered about a general vit and min supplement and mixing that with a little fast fibre and oat straw which is what I used to do with the all in one. topspec rep thought it was unusual that my lads didn't like the all in one which certainly worked out more pocket friendly

Thanks. Keep hearing good things about micronised linseed.

Looks like going to have some homework to contrast and compare horse feeds. Pity there is a website the compares horse feed ingredients! LOL

Just to prove because my horses are heavy doesn't meant that they are overweight and laminitis prone.

This is my lad that weighed 810kg who is one of the heaviest horses the topspec rep had weighed for a time.
