i used to use them on my mare and they really do make them look fab, realy nice coats etc, however i replied to your 'sunflower seed' post above and like i said i now use those, no different imo and a lot cheaper!

plus my mare used to go crazy on the topspec - she started being a total handful out hacking, but as soon as i cut it out she was fine again.

however, feeds can have different effects on different horses.

One word - Fantastic! So digestable, easy to chew, smell glorious so very appetising, give a lovely shine to the coat and do not heat the horse up, well not mine anyway and he is naturally mental! :)

fab IMO, had Pidge on them for over a year to help get weight and condition on, have now swapped to the cool and condition cubes. Didn't heat him up at all.

Yes they are very conditioning however, I swear by this diet for increasing condition:

Alfa A Oil
TopSpec Balancer
TopSpec Conditioning Flakes
Speedibeet
Ad lib Hay

What else are you feeding?

Sometimes, it is not that the feed makes them go loopy, is that they need to use the extra energy the conditioning feed gives them. Often a horse with poor condition uses his natural energy to keep him going therefore, he is calmer as he lacks energy. When you supplement this with conditioning feed which is high in energy (as all conditioning feeds are) they find they have extra energy they didn't have before, therefore they can appear suddenly fizzy. If you give it time and work them, they sometimes settle down and then the condition goes on. Well, that's what happened to my boy anyway and he now looks truly superb for his age in my opinion (he's 20).

Check you are feeding the right amount of alfa a oil, if you call Dengie they will tell you. You probably don’t need the vegetable oil as the alfa a oil is packed with oil, plus if you feed additional oil you’ll need to supplement the diet with vitamin E I believe.

Try the conditioning flakes before adding anything else as you probably won’t need sunflower seeds if you are feeding it at the right amount.

Both alfa a oil and the conditioning flakes are designed to be non-heating unlike competition mixes etc so your horse should be ok and calm down a bit once he’s adjusted to the extra feed he’s getting.

TopSpec balancer is also amazing and helps with muscle development, seems expensive at first but negates the need to add additional supplements as it has most of them in it.
