Does anyone feed topspec comprehensive balancer or conditioning flakes in particular or any other and what do you'd think of it? before and after pics if you like. Seems pricey but horse luved samples!
I have my older mare on the Topspec senior balancer and have done since about Christmas. It's worked absolute wonders for her (My mother was just commenting on such when she was riding her yesterday and the old girl was a bit full of herself
Have fed it to mine and swear by it. My oldie (oofa) was really ill last year and lost heaps of weight. Here is a before and after using Top Spec, just 3 weeks apart.
Before (11.02.07)
3 weeks later (03.03.07)
Also just started using it on my ex racehorse who is off with a tendon injury, pictures 4 weeks apart, but I'm afraid he couldn't be bothered to get up for the "after" shot. But he does look much better, especially in his coat.
Thanks for all those comments and the before and after you can see a visible difference, and lovely horses. How much would you's pay for a bag and on average how long does it last?
Agree with puppy. My oldie was on top spec comprehensive balancer (powder) but being a fussy old thing did'nt like the taste. changed to the balancer cubes and he did really well on them. Changed again to the Senior balancer when it came out last year as it hasa joint suppliment. I'm really pleased with this and think its well worth the cost (£38) as it also supports lung health. That may seem a lot but a bag lasts me a month ( one pay day to the next!!) and my horse is a heavyweight 17hh. It would cost me loads more to feed a balancer and separate suppliments for joints and COPD. I think the comprehensive balancer is about £28.
Thats interesting, they also seem very helpful when i rang for a sample (fussy horse) and you dont need to seem to feed alot of it either, think i will give it a go, like the idea if one pay day to the next!
I am just 5 weeks into using the Top Spec comprehensive balancer. It is expensive at £32/bag, BUT you can knock back the rest of your hard feed quite hard, so you need to take that into account. My TB gets the Top Spec and a very little D&H Safe & Sound which is a high fibre chaff type feed.
I am feeding it because I hope it will improve her hoof growth. Top Spec told me I could stop feeding her other joint supplement, which I have done. This has saved me £17 per month and does not seem to miss the joint supplement.
My Mare looked fab before, so I can't say she looks any different, as I say I feeding her feet.
I've always found the helpline to be very useful and not pushy. My boy went off the taste of the powder balancer and I could not figure out why when he had happily eaten it for weeks. I phoned topspec who said that he had just developed a sweet tooth (because we had just started feeding haylage) and that the powder has an apple flavouring that can be quite sour. I changed to the pellets and he's been fine since. He just has that and chaff and maybe a veteran mix in the winter.
I used to have Oscar on the balancer and the flakes when I first got him and it made a massive improvement. Now though hes just on the leisuretime balancer and I can honestly say he looks fine on it. If price is an issue, try that instead as I think I only pay £26 and it lasts as long as the other balancer. Think the only difference is something to do with feet but dont quote me
Its up to you really - Id stop the flakes though now shes up to weight. I carried on only with the balancer coz my chap can drop off quick and I know hes getting all his vits etc. See how it goes.
Brilliant stuff. Have tried several different balancers but I like TopSpec the best. I only use 1/2 pint per day per horse to see a big difference in their coat and the amount of hard feed I need to feed. Recommend it.
old boy is on the Antilam coz he's fat now he's out of work and young one on the standard coz he's skinny! i do have before and after pics and it's made a huge difference. he's now on half rations and it means i can feed a lot less hard feed even with only half rations - def worth the money. half rations means one bag (£30) lasts 80days - nearly 3mths.
