Has anyone has their horse tear or injure their abdominal muscles? Or suffered a trauma in this area?

The cause happened months ago but only really came to light as an issue a month ago, probably getting ever so slightly worse with normal work. Only noticeable thing was he was occasionally uneven in walk, fine in trot and canter. He always worked through it and even now he does. But we got it investigated and turns out it's this.

History is: he got his back leg caught and we believe when wrenching it forwards to get unstuck he has torn his abdominal muscles. He's under chiro/osteo treatment weekly and I can see it is getting better (more movement in that leg) and they they are getting to the source of pain (he's vocal when they get it right) it's only the second week and I do feel its going to be a long process so I just wondered if anyone else had something similar and could share.

We are keeping him in light work, trotting long and low to keep the topline muscle as the last thing we want is wastage.

It's a shame he's so talented and we were doing so well until this happened.

I had a heavily pregnant mare tear an abdominal muscle - we had to do a c-section because it was so close to full on rupture.

When she first tore the muscle she was lame on the hind leg - the side of the tear. - she then ruptured another abdominal muscle up higher - which was why we had to do the emergency c -section.

- she was put in a belly band on restricted exercise - she was only allowed in a small yard where she would just mooch around - she had a lot of ventral oedema on her belly and became extremely sore - started showing signs of colic etc...

Have you had your vet out to scan? - I know that its a different scenario - but my mare is left with a hernia and will never have a foal again..

I am not a vet but is exercise the right thing to do, i know a very bad haematoma if still bleeding can tear more and become traumatic with exercise and if not reduced after a week needs to be lanced, not sure of this is the same thing, correct me if i am wrong please. Just feel there has to be blood involved with a tear between the tissues and muscles.
