Hi, my horse (10 year old thoroughbred/cob/irish draught) tore his DDFT last year, to cut a very long story short, he had x-Rays (before we knew it was the tendon) and got a steriod injection for arthritis, anyway came back lame so went for MRIs and found a tear in his DDFT. Underwent an operation on the 5th of January 2016 to attach the fibres, drain the fluid and also had an injection into the navicular bursary as inflammation was fount to prevent any damage possibly done. Came home with bandage changes instructions, hand walking building up from 30 seconds to 10 minutes within 2 weeks, and is now on his third month on hand walking at 30 minutes morning and night and turnout in a small pen :) (although this has been limited due to weather conditions). Vet came out last time (around 4 weeks ago) and almost sound in trot with just the odd step of lameness, trotted uo today and looks to be sound (even after silly antics in the field!) but vet due again in 2 weeks for another chack up and shoe change so will know for definite then and hopefully start some ridden work. Just wondering is anyone else has been through the same or similar and what are your outcomes? very interested to hear some similarities as i've only found one person who has done the same! TIA x

Thankyou! good read☺️ Hopefully we'll have a positive outcome too! only been just over three months since his op so still baby steps☺️ Could i ask did you do any therapies like magnetic or hydro at all?x

Fingers crossed for you. I did buy her some magnetic boots but to be fair I think they just made me feel better rather than doing anything! I did think about hydro therapy as there is a place near us but funds wouldn't allow. It was basically a few months of walking (it was extended as I did my back in and couldn't ride) which seemed to do the trick. I've been careful ever since and didn't jump for a year after her op but we haven't had any trouble since. She's also barefoot now.

Okay thankyou! I debated whether to get magnetic boots or not but didn't want them heating anything up! ah i see, he's been hand walked from the day he got home (stayed in horsepital for 5 days) and is now built up to 30 minutes twice a day (morning and night) over a period of just over 3 months :) can now be turned out in a small pen but due to weather and him being a stresshead he's only been out 4 days so not behaving very well on walks🙄 just hoping everytime he doesn't damage anything

I feel your pain, we had some acrobatics when we started walking! Stupidly I didn't wear gloves the first time and ended up with rope burns! I did put her on Valerian calmer which did the trick - it's banned for competition because it works :)
