Apologies for long post ...........
While I was on holiday my girl somehow managed to tear a muscle in a back leg in the stable. Vet thinks she may have done the splits? YO found her shaking and non weight bearing on a routine check so called vet out because no heat or visable signs of injury
She's now on box rest with short walks in hand as often as possible.
Apparently, her leg the day after the incident was really swollen from top to bottom. (tree trunk like) plus a large fluid lump under her stomach.
She was diagnosed with navicular last year so needs to be moving as much as possible and being ID she's prone to puttting weight on so bit of vicious circle at moment.
In because of injury, walks to reduce swellings, needs to be moving because of navicular and don;t want her putting weight on.
When I spoke to vet today she said, she'll need to be in for quite a few weeks because she needs to be on a flat paddock and there isn't any flat land where we are.
Anyone any experience of this injury and recovery rate plus ideas on how to keep her sane without gaining weight whilst in?
Nets are being tripled to slow her eating down, she's being walked out 2 or 3 times a day for about 20 mins each time, more at weekends and YO, who's been briliiant is walking her out, hosing her and turning her out on small grassey drive area for about 30 mins each day. Thinking of getting a stable mirror although being on her own isn't the issue, it's being without food she doesn't like.
Sorry for ramble: cuppa and piece of freshly baked tea loaf on offer or glass of wine for those who get to end
