Total Hoof Crisis!

I'd be scrubbing those soles with a Milton solution, tubbing ideally to let it right into the central sulcus then I'd be putting iodine on there too. Those frogs and heels look sore :-( there shouldn't be contraction like that at the heel, a healthy hoof should have a wide, flat frog. This is my boys for comparison:

I would get him into forage plus, get disinfecting and seriously consider pulling those shoes off. Good luck OP

Diet really is key. Limit the grass, soak his hay and feed something like pro hoof etc, linseed, salt and mag ox/chloride. Mine had, well still has terrible feet but we are getting there. After his stay at hospital I politiced with iodine soaked gauze for a few days, then clean traxed him. Clean trax is amazing stuff! It cleared the infection up and he really did have a chronic and long standing infection. He was turned out in boots to start with, but is now out bare. He does still need front boots for hacking though as we have a really gritty and stony track to get out of the yard. We are 7 weeks out of shoes now and its been a bt of a roller coaster. Hes had his barefoot diet for about 3 months and the top third of his hoof is growing down a much better shape. I just need him to grow some heel now and then the feet should open up even more.

Here is a link to the trimmers report on my boys feet. I'm just waiting for the PDF from yesterday, but the feet are showing improvement. Another 3 months and we should have decent feet again :)

OP just as aside you say u r feeding 250grams of biotin a day unless that's a typo that is far too much most hoof supplements have 15g per day I have seen recommended for poor hooves 20g a day but 250 g is way in excess. Its probably not doing any harm who knows but it is a waste of your money. Anyway I have been having problems with one of my horses losing shoes etc & have looked at the barefoot route you do need to be quite dedicated to keep within the parameters but my farrier said to me that you need to have the horse out of shoes for 3 months to get a decent amount of foot to reshoe

Hi
I noticed a few of you mentioned 'salt' along with the mag ox, linseed and pro hoof/or other

Can you explain why ? I
Know a normal
Paddock kept horse wudnt have access to enuf salt and minerals.. But is there another aspect to this ??
Thanks in advance
