Ok so its been 3 days of AGONY now. I have been taking the max painkillers now for 3 days and I am even upping my diazipam which I only wanted to take in the evening, due to the worst spasms then. Today I had a sports massage and it possibly made it worse. I am so annoyed, I want to go and brush Jim, kiss and cuddle him, poo pick the field, actually muck his stable out as my friend although lovely and being wonderful over the last few days, does not do it to my standards and he is standing on soggy wet shavings now. I want to make sure he goes out with his face washed, ears cleaned and fly spray on, tail brushed, baby oil on his nose and hoof oil on. I want to to change him onto his haylege but cant even bend down to fill a haynet and I want to start soaking his copra meal to take him off his nuts. and I want to ride him.

AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ............... its sooooo annoying. I am never ever ever ever riding without a back protector again, this sucks. My poor little jim who wants nothing but love is being abandoned and its ALL MY FAULT!!!

sorry for rant but I am so frustrated. Any Ideas welcome

If I was nearer I would help and go and cuddle Jim for you.:(

As it is I have a couple of practical suggestions which may help you - get some arnica tablets - the 30c ones from Boots or health food shop and a magnetic bracelet/wirst strap - Biolflow do them. Both will help you heal quicker and you can take them alongside your diazepam etc. I promise they will both help.:)

If you can, try a long hot bath as it will help to relax the muscles.

It helped when i fell off a few years ago and broke my coccyx...i had an egg shaped lump on my bum and had to sit on a rubber ring at work...much to the amusement of my colleagues

Anyway, i found a bath helped. Hope your feeling better soon :)

I feel your pain! I hate being laid up and currently have a partially dislocated hip. The only thing I cannot do... is ride! I may have to break the rules tomorrow, though. Lunging is starting to bore me. Docs have said it may move back in with a few simple exercises however if not, they will have to manipulate it. Needless to say, I'm exercising it rather a lot! Wine helps with the pain ;)

Hope you feel less sore soon. xx

Thankyou,

Will try all suggestions, want a bath, only just managed a shower last night (yes gross I know) and at least the rest has let me catch up on the Looooooong post :) will defo get arnica and try the magnetic braclets do they make belts?? . and Sedgemoor, loving the rubber ring :) that made me smile. defo beats my squinty hobble walk :D :D

Aghh cant have wine either, not allowed with all the painkillers!!! :(

A tip I was given when seeing my chiropracter for a bad back - was get someone to put frozen peas on the spot of the spasms, 20 mins on, 20 mins off, 20 mins an off - it seemed to help, as it stimulates blood flow which in turn should help reduce the spasms as it helps the muscles relax.

Point of warning: Don't entrust a husband to do it first thing in the morning when you are up to your eyes balls on painkiller and diazapam - it can lead to them sticking the peas on your back, totally forgetting about it and buggering off to work. Cue me waking up a few hours later wondering why I was freezing when wrapped up in a duvet.....took hours to warm up LOL!!!!

if it doesnt ease off in a couple of days pop back to the hospital and get them to double check you! if you dont then a swift kick up the bottom is in order!!

What have you done and what painkillers are you on? I have to say when i broker my collar bone I was on some strong painkillers and I have to said an addition of wine did help a bit - oj so probably NOT ideal but what the hell, it made me feel better and helped me sleep! Lol

fell off tuesday onto a tree stump on my back, nothing broken (:D) but did go to A and E eventually. on cocodamol 4 times a day ibuprofen 3 times a day and Diazipam 4 time max but mainly taking just before bed to help with sleep. although have two heat packs on now and have not had last lot of painkillers which is good, so maybe getting better :D :D :D :D

I would try alternating the frozen peas with a warm wheat bag for max effectiveness in reducing the swelling. Osteopath advised this for daughter's knee after exercise and it really helps the pain - she's grumbling today because it was school sports yesterday, and she only went and won the 600m by half a lap and overtook all but 1 other runner having been told not to over do it! Silly girl!

Hee hee sounds like a girl after my own heart....... too competitive :) I once pulled my hamstring so bad doing hurdles a wrenched of a chunk of bone, but you know what, even though I failed miserably at winning i fell over the line in third place. just had to be literally picked of the floor :D thanks for tips will try them. and hope daughter gets better soon, hope she gets better sounds like we could do with her in the 2012 olympics.

If it's not against your doctor's orders, I have found that careful, gentle walking does help with back spasms. Just make sure it is on a level surface and that you aren't walking out to the barn to clean stalls!

I can SO relate to your frustration. I am in a leg cast right now because I had to have foot surgery. I am ordered to take it very easy and not ride for six weeks! (I did take a short ride day before yesterday - shhhh, don't tell anyone). It is terribly frustrating to have other people caring for your horse because they never do it as well as you would.

I hope you're feeling better soon.

hee heee, i remember when I broke my leg as wasnt allowed to ride for 3 months!!!! bad bad times. But I just v quickly gave him some calmer and sat on him with mum on the end of the lunge line. It took 10 mins to get off as leg seized up but horse (who was one that broke leg) was good, mainly due to calmer and didn't care. little walks today have helped just think done a few too many.

:) D

I also feel your pain, I had an accident riding and had no body protector on, I was so frustrated cause i couldnt ride for a long time! I couldnt even brush him! And I hate leaving him in the hands of others for long periods of time incase they do something wrong or havent noticed any little changes in him , even if they are doing a wonderful job.

Have you tried deep heat cream? I had a really bad fall years ago and remember being in agony for 2 weeks. It was my lower back and doctor said other than ibuprofen gel (useless) and painkillers (also useless) there was nothing they could do. The worst things were sneezing and going to the loo!! The only thing that made it bearable was that cream that makes your skin really hot. I think it was called ralgex?? Sure I've seen stuff called deep heat recently which is the same.
