Totilas

Now I appreciate his talent but with just one young foal on the ground is that sort of pricing justified? to me at the moment he is still unproven as a sire.

I think this "offer" is for those that can afford to loose a lot of money if things do not go right, who own a mare with the performance conformation and breeding to do this mating justice at the moment he is not a sire for the average breeder!!!

Totilas is as you know is a great Dressage horse his breeding is fantastic! Edward Gal is riding his sister and doing very well! There will be a foal or two out there who i am sure will do as well in the future! He is the best in his field and i think they should ONLY put him to mares with the best blood lines! Sorry! I wish i could afford too lol!

If he fails to live up to expectations as a sire, it will be too late for those that have shelled out the big bucks. His connections though will have re-couped some of their investment & a lot quicker then if they started at a lower fee. If you had paid all that money to have one of his foals, then you sure as hell are going to make sure it gets the best training, so there should not be any excuses if he does fail.

He is still a stallion that will command a decent stallion fee, we will just have to wait & see if his current stud fee is justified. At least you are not paying over the odds because of his colour!

Last year it was "just" 5000 euro. I'm quite sure off his breeding qualities. He's no fluke and descents from an established damline.

All mares were selected and only the best were given seamen.

I would have to have one hell of a mare to even consider putting her to Totilas. I have a horrible feeling that by making him available to anyone with a mare and a few grand to spare, his 2012 offspring are not going to be of the same quality as the 2011's.

Zijdeglans, what makes you say he can never be a breeding stallion, when he hasnt had chance to prove it yet. Do you think he is an end product?

I have just been watching him at todays stallion show. And he gave me goosebumps as ever despite the odd error. The hind leg is superb, the canter priouettes were immaculate. And knowing what a fabulous work ethic he has, what a nice horse he is in the box, then if I had 8k spare I would use him.

His hindleg is still crap. Tiny bit better that with Edward, but still crap and lacking power. Very lovely character, perfect sporthorse, but for breeding. Never.

We'll see. I am 100% sticking to that he won't improve movement or power from behind.

...nope - I wouldnt use him (even with the 8000e spare) & Im a Trakehner nut.

Gribaldi produced 16 approved sons & many Ster daughters - (yet was overlooked in the studbook for Elite until 2003), but like most sires of "en trend famous horses" - many of his progeny are now advertised as "half brother to Totilas!" at knock down prices.
Over use of a "wonder stallion" dilutes the worth, sadly.

Also, I agree with many who express that although very handsome & with an incredible front leg action it is not often matched by his hindend - there is little parallel in movement, & he appears at times to "tick tock" - move from the elbow with little free movement of that (rather fetching) shoulder, he often appears to lack engagement & balance in more difficult movements at his level (yes, I am aware of his age) - but there are other proven stallions out there, with a lower studfee who already have proven progeny.

Please dont get me wrong, I think Totilas very smart & he has a touch of magic about him for the way he captures both headlines & imagination especially at his age - but I prefer my own descendant of the original "Totilas" (Trakehner 1936) in my stable, even though she's unknown LOL.

Good luck of course!
