Had my weekly lesson this morning and it started with RI saying " OK this week loose the stirrups " OMG I knew this was going to be fun NOT !! We then proceeded to do a full flat lesson as normal but without the irons ;) nice walk correct posture and into working trot, mmmmmm thats bouncey :D but surprisingly after a short time it starts to fall into place. Then trot to canter and back down again, ok not so bad :) then the next hour was all that train of thought and to finish off pop a couple of jumps

Well to my surprise no injuries of the under carriage ;) and my seat feels more secure, once again I know I have to trust my RI ~ yes she knows best :D

I went with no stirrups in my lesson on Wednesday, only for a short while though (and we are just doing very basic stuff). It was enjoyable and I could feel it doing my posture and seat a lot of good... it just hurts now!

When I was a kid I had a RI who used to make me ride for an hour at a time on the lunge with no stirrups and sometimes no reins. My God, I despised her at the time but I swear it made me a much better rider - nothing like the fear of falling/sliding off to make you listen!! :D

When I was learning to ride there was a 15 minute spot on every lesson where we had to cross over our stirrups and do some flat work or small jumps. I do wonder if it has influenced my riding style though because I always feel more secure and have a better seat with quite long stirrups.
