You'd think it's common sense to leave mares and foals well alone, especially if they're semi-feral, but no. If only more of these people could get a proper kicking, and then maybe they'd learn their lesson.

There is an increasing disconnect between many people and animals, even when those people believe they 'love' animals. The news item catalogues a series of moronic incidents, sadly not surprising. We have witnessed similar on the Brecon Beacons; very closely flying drones which seem to deliberately provoke stock, people trying to 'make' ponies gallop for their holiday film, children trying to cuddle feral ponies or catch young lambs. The list is quite long. Honestly, some people do not deserve and have not earned the right to enjoy those places...

Part of the problem these days is social media. Everything is there for entertainment, to be videod and put on tiktok or something. Kids (and too many adults) often treat animals like toys. There's no consideration for the feelings and welfare of the animal. No thought that, like humans, animals have different personalities, different likes and dislikes, different reactions to events. They are just there for the next photo opportunity. Add to that the 'it's my right' attitude of a chunk of the population and acceptable behaviour and consideration of others (humans and animals) is seriously on the way out!

I wonder if the increase in urban farms/petting zoo type places has made people over familiar with animals in general

I think this sometimes. A lot of people seem to think they have the right to touch and bother animals not belonging to them. There’s a local little farm that has an area people can go in and sit among the rabbits, but are asked not to pick them up (signs everywhere).

At the start of the summer a post appeared from the owner explaining they would have to shut the farm if people wouldn’t respect the rules. Apparently a baby rabbit was picked up and passed between children and when approached about this, the adult with them argued with the farm owner saying they should be allowed.
Even the post had a load of entitled idiots saying “you can’t tell children not to pick up cute animals” etc
Sadly a post appeared the next morning that the baby rabbit in question had been found dead.

I detest set ups like this, where the general public get free rein around animals.

OMG - where did this generation of entitled, selfish, insensitive twats come from who are now raising their children to be even worse than they are as apparently 'consequences ' for atrocious, antisocial behaviour is no longer a thing.

I would highly doubt it’s a generational problem
Idiots have existed for years
Social media just showcases them more
