Does anyone know of any good websites which review tow cars specifically for horses/livestock? All google ever comes up with is caravanning stuff and all they keep chirping on about is the 85% kerb weight stuff which isn't all that relevant.

You could try some of the 4x4 forums. My OH is on a few Land Rover ones and there are always questions like that on there.
Saw your post on the other thread - I haven't towed with a Disco Sport but had one as a courtesy car when my Defender was in having paint work sorted under warranty and loved it to drive. I had the diesel which had plenty of go in it. I was getting around 40mpg even on a fairly short (6 miles) journey to work and up to 45 on a longer run. It felt like it had plenty of grunt to tow with, although I appreciate you'll never really know this until you try. They tow 2200kg I believe - the newer engine might even be 2500kg?

ETA: Try this one https://www.discosportforums.co.uk/

Tow Car Reviews for Horseboxes !!
That had me confused but then I realized you meant Horse trailers

Could not think why you would want to tow a horsebox with a car LOL

We call them horseboxes where I live :P So we regularly tow horseboxes with our cars.

Not sure why anyone would want to buy the sport version (sorry don’t mean to offend anyone) but most Discos tow 3500kg easily - I love towing with mine, I don’t know the trailer is there

Some may not need to tow that much and might want something a bit more economical for every day or easier to park in a multi-storey. I struggle with my Defender in some older car parks near me - I think a Disco is even taller.

Oh really? I've always called them horseboxes and the ones you drive are called lorries. Colloquial differences I suppose... tomayto tomahto...

It's the choice I've been given by company I work for. Disco's were a bit over the budget.

Yes that's true, I do still need to drive it for work as well so the Disco Sport, XC60 and GLC are roughly in the same ballpark not just for towing but economy and cost :)

I do also thing 3.5t is a bit overkill having driven a Patrol and towed two... was handy in the snow though - we were local heroes! :D

I think that sometimes about my Defender as I rarely take two anywhere these days but on those occasions I do, I'm glad I can. My two are both close to 700kg in so reallly wouldn't want to take them together with anything other than 3.5T capability. I've also never felt so safe towing with any other car. It just feels so capable. I only do about 6,000 miles a year so figure it's not costing me or the environment too much - although appreciate short journeys aren't ideal for a diesel.

Annagain - if it makes you feel better the defender is still the most environmentally friendly car on the road - if you take the whole picture into account (i.e. manufacture and lifespan). Ours is 14 and still going strong and hubby fully intends to have it for decades to come. However, multi-storey car parks are not your friend!
Top tip - if you normally only do short journeys try and take it for one longer run every now and again. We were having some minor niggles with ours which were all resolved when I started using it for one commute a week.

It’s a pity that you can’t test drive a tow car with an actual towing experience though. It’s surprising how different they all feel. So your shortlist is all similar on paper but may not all feel the same.

I’ve not towed with discovery sport, but have driven them a few times and was impressed. Good luck with your choice.

Haha loves it! Thanks nicnac- just my sense of humour!

McFluff- yes that’s the thing, can’t test with the trailer!
