Would a Subaru Legacy 2.5 Outback be able to legally tow an Ifor 510 trailer and 16.2 horse?

Cheers. If you go into Legacy it gives the 2.5 outback option. It says braked towing weight 1800kg. Can anyone explain this to a towing virgin please

The maximum weight it can tow is 1800KG. So that's to include the weight of the trailer and anything in it including the horse.

Not sure which forum it's in but if you search for posts by ROG and check their sig, they are extremely knowledgeable and have set up a 'Towing Clinic' thread.
In brief, tho - the braked towing weight is the maximum the manufacturer specifies the vehicle capable of towing (you'll see unbraked but ignore that - any trailer over 750kg needs its own braking system, hence the one you look at is always braked).
1800kg minus weight of trailer (off top of my head something like 1100 for a 510 - praps a little less) leaves you with what you can stick inside said trailer - so for example up to 700kg for horse. HOWEVER - this causes some confusion as I understand it's law on the continent but is definitely only guidance in the UK - it's recommended not to go over 85% towing capacity, esp if you're a towing novice.

I can't find it on that list ROG. It's a Subaru Legacy Outback 2.5 auto. 1999. The horse is a irish draught/sports horse. I haven't bought the car yet as I need to know if it will legally tow trailer and horse. Licence is B+E.

Look at the VIN plate for weights for the specific vehicle. The gross vehicle weight and the gross train weight will be displayed - the towing weight is the diff. between the two. I think you would be better with a manual for towing unless you are towing well under the max capacity which I don't think you will be.

Also look on the V5 document - many weights are on that
The towing weight is not always the GTW minus the GVW
I'll give a made up example for a van -
Unladen = 2000
GVW = 3500
GTW = 6000
Trailer = 3500 MAM
Van loaded to 3000 with trailer loaded to 3000 would be legal even though the difference between GTW & GVW is 2500
