Am I right in thinking that the total tow capacity is 2270. Would this tow a horse only one and trailer

The top two figures are normally the maximum weight (Gross Vehicle Weight - GVW) and the total weight of the car + trailer (Gross Train Weight - GTW). You need to subtract the top number from the bottom to get the towing capacity - which gives you 2235kg. I'd double check that against the exact make, model and spec you have on a database - there a quite a few if you google them. It's also on the vehicle's V5 (registration doc).

If it's correct, that would be plenty to tow a trailer and one horse - as an example an IW511 weighs 1000kg so even with a big horse on it you'd have plenty to spare. You'd need to make sure you have the correct licence too. If you passed your test before 1/1/97, you'll be fine, if not you'll need to take a towing test.

A sensible rule of thumb is that standard size well built trailer will be 1000kgs - you should check and the trailer will have a plate on it to confirm.

Horses are very variable my 15.1 cob type was on the weighbridge at 580 kgs ! A friend's 17.1 hunter type 670kgs

Either of those would give you scope for tack, water, other normally horsey junk and not be right on the limit (which you don't want to be if you have to go up a hill or overtake something).

If tack etc is in the car it doesn't affect towing capacity - obviously if it's in the trailer it does.

GVW 2270 so if no B+E on licence then the max a trailer can be plated at is 1230 with only a B licence
