We have lost the use of our lorry but my husband has a ford transit flat bed that i can use to tow large ivor williams trailer. I am only towing a 15h horse . Does anybody else have any experiences of towing with these please . Any comments greatly appreciated. I don't want to use it if it's an absolute nightmare to tow with ....I am aware that its not 4 x4 but we only do dressage and all the venues are on hardstanding

I suspect that will be around a total of 1500 kgs being towed

Does the transit have a maximum towing capacity listed ? - if not then as long as you do not exceed the GTW (actual total weight of the combination) you will be ok

Plenty tow trailers with transits so I cannot foresee any issues on that score

I've towed with a long wheel base transit - absolutely brilliant! Better than my aged Disco:( Only problem is that it did make for a very long combo in tight car parks;)

With that combination don't be surprised if you get pulled by police etc. ;-)

Assuming the tranny van has a 2.5l Diesel engine in... I'm pretty sure it's the same engine in ford rangers

I quite often tow with a Mercedes Sprinter MWB high roof. I have an Ifor 510 and tow 1 horse but the max tow weight of the Sprinter is 2800KG which is a lot more than I need. It is a superb towing vehicle - better than a 4X4 in many ways (and I normally tow with a Defender but have also towed with most other big 4X4's at some point) until you hit wet grass or mud and then you are stuffed!! It is bigger than the trailer and mine is a 313 so has a bigger engine. The trailer is barely noticeable and the van has LOTS of space to throw all your stuff in :-).
