I'm thinking about taking towing lessons. It would make my life so much easier at work if I could tow.

I've got a few numbers for instructors in my area but I'm not sure what I need. Do I have to provide the car? I have an estate with a tow bar which can tow 800kg un-braked or 900kg braked.

Anything else I should know? (I'll ask when I phone, but I don't want to ask too many numpty questions!)

Thanks!

Best to go with an instructor who is used to teaching bigger vehicle/towing rather than a bog standard driving instructor who has just thought to add to their business by doing towing lessons. I'm going through this currently after avoiding it for 12 Years!! I've enquired locally and found one instructor who will teach using your vehilce and trailer and two other companies with their own set up (vehicle plus trailer, the test requires a box trailer). If you equate the two with the cost of diesel using your own car etc they are roughly the same cost.

I found the majority of places offering towing lessons provide the tow car and trailer, as they make sure they are up to test standard. I'd say it's much better to go with someone who does provide both car and trailer.

One thing I will say though is shop around, I had quotes from £30 an hour to £120 an hour!!

Word of mouth is best to find a good place, I'm in East Mids if you want the number of who I used, but if not just phone lots of numbers in the yellow pages
