Towing Setup

Hey all,

First post

I’m trying to get a little advice for anyone that tows with a Ford Transit Custom or VW Transporter.

I’m debating buying a converted van as a weekend holiday camper with a tow bar to pull a trailer (not bought yet)

Horse is approx 400kg and looking at an Ifor 506.

I’m wondering if this works as the towing info is incredibly varied as there are SO many variations of the vehicles.

Vans have a different max towing limit than cars

With cars the GTW minus the GVW is usually the max tow limit

With vans the above does not usually apply and here is an example -
Van GTW 4500
Van GVW 3500
Van empty 2000
Max tow limit on V5 doc 2000
If Van loaded with 1500 then max trailer with load = 1000
If van loaded with 500 then max trailer with load = 2000
