Hello, I was interested in taking a test for towing a trailer with livestock in but I have no idea where to start! I have had a look on the Directgov website but I don't think it's jenbleep friendly. :)

How do I go about it? And how much should I be expecting to pay?

Any info greatly appreciated!

Hi, I did my tow test just a month or so ago. Basically livestock or not it's just a tow test, which is basically a driving test... (so it's mirrors etc all the way!)

Do you have your own trailer, tow car? If so, get someone who legally tow and go out with you to help (said person needs to have a) passed their tow test or b) have passed their drivers test pre 1997.)

Get to grips with towing then book some lessons from a private instructor and book your test! That's what I did, passed in a month of starting and it cost under £300 all in, inc. the £120 test.

If you don't have your own trailer etc, you can book an instensive course, ranges from about £300 upwards to £800!! They can last a few days to a week.

Goodluck.x

That's great, thank you very much.

I can deal with £300 or thereabouts, but not £800!

I don't have a trailer of a tow car, but Charisma's owner has said I can drive hers! So I might see if she can take me out. Her driveway is so steep and has a twist at the end, so I may get her to get me up there first, lol!

Is the instructor just a normal driving instructor then, so I can call my guy up from 6 years ago?! :D

Hi
Most driving instructors(BSM and the like)just deal with cars-so have a look in Yellow Pages under "LGV/HGV Training"-some places do anything from a fork lift to a 44 ton artic-or Google "Trailer Training" and it will bring up loads. You could ask your previous instructor if he knows/can recommend anyone though.

I'd agree that a steep drive with a corner wouldn't be the best towing "introduction":)

Good luck!
