Hi
I know these trailers are heavy, I currently have a disco that tows my Wessex trailer but am looking to buy an Equi Trek. My 2 horses weigh in at 1.1 ton then tack water passengers etc. Would my disco be ok to pull this? My boyf says it may not have enough torque (whatever that means!)
Thanks for your help.

If your Disco cannot tow it you will be hard pushed to find a car that will.

Thats what I thought! Think the boyf just wants a new car. Had visions of me having to buy a car with a bigger engine, hopefully not though.

You wont find many cars that will have more torque than a disco. It is not just about pulling the trailer but stopping it.I drive a Landrover Defender and it has a towing capacity of 3.5 ton (i think your Disco has the same),i think the Landrovers have the highest capacity to tow.You will struggle to find a car with the same grunt as a Disco or Defender.

We've got the 4* Equitrek which is the bigger one and we tow it with a 4.6 Range Rover with no problems whatsoever.
I am sure yours would be fine.
Give Equitrek a ring and ask them, they will have the weights and if you give them your vehicle info they will tell you I am sure.

If you have your handbook for the disco there should be a page with your max tow weights in. The further away you are from the max the easier the tow. Anything below 95% of the max should cause no problem and tow well on flat roads or reasonable inclines. If you are doing much hillier(?) roads then it would be better be around 80% or less.

I reckon that the disco would do it... we have an old wooden trailer - probably weighs 1.2ton empty, and I tow it with 2 big horses (1.4ton total) and all the kit with my P reg disco and no problems at all.

and we have hills up here too!

I've towed with both & they are good but without a doubt a Shogun or Pajero LWB tows much easier & smoother.

Thanks for all your replies guys, think ill stick with my disco for now then. Actually I have just got back from a sj clinic and saw an audi estate pulling one so it confirmed in my head that my disco should be fine!

Or, the audi estate towing an equitrek was just plain wrong ...

Have towed an Equitrek Showtrekka L with a kia sorento and it was fine.
