Just wondering what vehicle everyone uses or would recommend for towing a trailer?
I currently have an 04 plate Discovery 2 which is starting to get a bit tired and I need to look for a new vehicle but don’t want to get a Discovery 3 or 4
I have seen a LWB Mitsubishi Shogun and a Nissan Pathfinder both of which are would have a suitable towing capacity. Both vehicles I have seen are automatic and I have always previously had a manual. The 4x4 on the Nissan seems to be operated by a dial on the dash rather than via a gear stick and I’m not sure how effective/reliable this is.
Just wondering what people’s options were or if anyone has any other suggestions.
Thanks

Our wonderful, beautiful Touareg died about three weeks ago, I was effortless to tow with!! Repair under warranty is currently under investigation so in the meantime husband bought me a cheap old Daihatsu Fourtrak, the snob in me was not impressed but my god - I LOVE IT!!! Its 22 years old, pulls like a steam train!

We also run a SWB Shogun which is fab, but husbands vehicle to throw mountain bikes in so rarely tows with it, but has been super when we have.

Love my shogun for towing, my first auto and won't want to go back to a manual again!. Been much more reliable (touches wood) than any discovery (2 and 3) I have had before.

I had an old (X reg) manual SWB Shogun and it was fab to tow with. Really great. I have replaced it with a beefier Isuzu DMax Pickup, which is awesome and can tow 3.5 tonnes!

Shogun swb warrior 3.5 gdi auto use it most days for towing 2.5 tons very powerful and smooth but thirsty about 12 to gallon but worth it .

Thanks ROG for the info. I already have my B+E licence and I am only planning on towing 1 small 15hh light-medium weight horse (approx 480kg) in an ifor williams 506 trailer (920kg) so would only really be towing 1500kg but like to have a big a towing capacity as possible as on occasion I would have two horses in and we have some big hills in our area.

Thanks everyone. The fuel consumption is something else I’m trying to be mindful of as I don’t want to buy something that I then can’t afford to run.
