Towing - Volvo S80+Ifor+650kg Horse

A volvo S80 has a towing capcity of 3,300lb (about 1.5 tonnes).

You do not want to tow to the limit of the vehicle it is simply not safe - not so much that the car can't pull it, but more the ability to brake safely.

So, to be safe you want to tow no more than 1.2 tonnes with this vehicle - not sure how much your Ifor weighs but I'll bet its more than 550 kg.

In other words - car may well be legally capable dependant upon trailer weight but no, not necessarily safe.

Hope that helps :)

The way I understand it is that the car must be capable of towing the maximum weight the trailer could be, not what it actually is.

For example I think the max of my 510 is 2700Kg so my car would have to be allowed to tow that much.

The fact that it was only carrying one horse and therefore only weighed say 1700 Kg is irrelevant.

You can get the max weight of trailers downrated by a dealer

So it might be possible with a very light single trailer and I horse if the trailer was downrated to your cars towing limit but I doubt it.
