I am considering trading in my little car for a car or 4x4 so i can tow!

My horse is 16.3hh ISH and will fit in a new ifor williams single (as my friend has one and we checked he had enough room)

I was considering a Freelander 2ltr Diesel?

Would this be any good? or do you have better suggestions? all answers will be taken into condieration and will be greatly appreicated. :)

Im not sure that the freelander is legally allowed to tow the weight of a horse and trailer.
2 litre isn't really a big enough engine to handle the weight either.
check the braked towing weight of any car you look into, the bigger and heavier the car the more likely it will be able to tow a trailer safely, the car has to be heavy enough so that if the trailer wobbles it doesn't take the car with it.
i think you are going to need to look at discovery or defender type 4x4s or if you were looking for a good allrounder the diahatsu fourtrak is really good, they tow up to 3.5tonnes. I wanted one but as they are so good for the purpose people either hang on to them or sell them for alot of money for what they are.

I only have one horse and only plan on hiring a trailer until i have enough money to purschase one.

The Maxium Towed Weight Braked is 1800Kg for a freelander

The gross weight of a single is 1600kg
The unladen weight is 767kg

My horse weights 625kg

:)

I tow a Richardson Rosette trailer (similar weight to ifor 505) with my 626kg cob, with my 56 plate Suzuki Grand Vitara its 2ltr diesel (new shape)and it does the job very well, Ive been down the M1 motorway on my way to a lesson and had lorries whizz past and not a sniff of a wobble!!
