I know this is a question that has been asked a number of times before. I've always said that they cant tow a sausage :p but on checking Parkers Guide -some of them can tow up to 2000kg. I know thats more than likely only one horse plus trailer but hubby doesnt understand why they have such a poor reputation for towing.

can anyone elighten him?

We are looking to downgrade from a 5.5 tonne horsebox (with three seats) to a 4x4 and trailer (human family has grown!). He has the B+E category on his licence.

At the moment it looks like they are all we can afford (dont want to get finance)-any other suggestions -not looking for anything older than a 51reg.

Thanks.

I have seen many posts which state that the Freelander 1 (2001 to late 2005) had power issues when towing

They cannot all be wrong

The new Freelander 2 can tow 2 tonnes. They are a lot bigger than the earlier Freelanders and have a really good reputation for towing. I have one - they're lovely cars.

Some other possible ideas =

Nissan X trail (4X4) with these specifications/dimensions
Unladen/kerb = 1515
GVW = 2050
Towing = 2000

SUBARU FORRESTER (4X4)
Unladen/kerb = 1465 minimum
GVW = 2050 maximum
Towing = 2000

Skoda Yeti (4X4) with these specifications/dimensions
Kerb = 1530
GVW = 2070
Towing capacity = 2000

Suzuki vitara (4X4) with these specifications/dimensions
Kerb = 1400
GVW = 1950
Towing = 1850
