I've finally got the figure from the insurance company regarding my car which has been written off so desperately seeking car to tow my mobile snack bar plus a horse trailer.

Have been offered an R reg Mitsubishi Shogun 2.8 GLS TD for a decent price. Would it tow on a daily basis my snack bar and also tow mare and foal trailer okay.

Garage has got 3 cars which may be suitable (Land Rover Discovery and Range Rover) but the Shogun is by far cheaper but a bit older but looks okay but will it do the job? Any responses appreciated. Thanks.

We've had 2 discos (on the 2nd, upgraded from the old Tdi, now got the TD5) and they have both been, and are....real workhorses. TD5 failed it's very first MOT this year, on a lightbulb, and it's 10 years old!

Fab trucks....

OH also says in his line of work, the only landrovers he ever tows in, are not breakdowns, but crashes or wrong fuel put in!

Thanks. It was a Disco I was hoping to get as I've been using my mates one since the accident and it's been brilliant and her's is ancient. Unfortunately can't find too many around my area in my price range so am having to go for whatever I can find at the moment but will have a good look at the one I have found.

I've had my L Reg (1994) mitz for 4 years, I have towed 2 x 17.2hh's in an ifor williams 510. It has never let me down the most it has cost me for MOT's is £23.00 in parts. Last year it was £2.50.

It never feels like it's struggling.... and always has power.

I have had others, Isuzu, disco etc and now wouldn't have anything else!

Cheers for that information. Must admit, I do like the look of the Mitsubishi - will just have to go and have a look and drive of all three and see what I think will do the job the best. Thanks again to all of you for your responses.

I had an Mitsubishi Shogun S Reg and towed too big horses up and down the country team chasing no problem at all. However it was very thirsty on its diesel and i found parts expensive when it needed repairs. I have just bought a 52 Discovery which is much more economical on fuel and tows very well.

When we were looking at cars we tried the disco and the shogun and preffered the shogun much more (mainly due to price!) Its a lovely car, and the only problem is the amount of diesel you use but ours being slightly new it seems to be more efficient.
You shouldn't have any problems twoing with it as its what its been made to do, also fantastic in the snow and ice.
I would suggest test driving them both and see which one you preffer :)

dont know if its any help but i have a shogun its a 2000 x reg, it tows brilliantly (have to keep checking the trailers on the back :-)), starts first time and yes its thirsty, but does around 25/gallon with or without the trailer on with ivor williams 510 and around 750kg of horse in the back, the disco should be around the same mpg, but the guy who looks after my shogun told me not to go for a disco at the time i was looking. he said they rust/rot rather quickly and as they cost around the same to run i went for the shogun, parts arent too back cost me £180 for mot that included shock absorbers and brake calipers, labour was around £60 plus the mot. i even went on hols to cornwall in it last sept and it was great comfy on the motorway and around the lanes/country roads. v v happy shogun owner best of luck in your choice

I have a shogun sport 2.5 TD 54 reg and I love it! My husband does all the towing and he really likes it, better than our old kia sorento.

I drive it day to day and it's brill but thirsty.

It has a high towing capacity, about 2.8t I think, which is plenty for a double trailer and 2 horses.

I have no experience with Discos but did lots of research when buying this car and I heard they're not that reliable.

Well I think I will just go along, view all of them and make up my mind after a test drive. Just hope the insurance cheque doesn't take too long to come through now, but at least garage is aware that I can only leave a little deposit and are willing to hold on to whatever one I want.
