Have just read the below in today's Telegraph:

Drivers warned Nissan 4x4s could snap in two

Nissan has been urged to recall a 4x4 pick-up truck over fears that they could snap in half.
Owners of Nissan Navaras have reported finding rust that can crack the chassis. More than 15,000 people have joined a Facebook group for motorists concerned about models registered between 2005 and 2011. Richy Holmes, from Sunderland, set up the group after his vehicle snapped while towing a caravan.
Nissan said it was aware of the issue in a “relatively small number” of previous generation D40 Navaras and had put measures in place to “quickly resolve the concerns of any customers”.

Experienced this first hand, luckily I wasn't towing at the time. The rust on the chassis had caused it snap on one side, breaking the diesel tank strap and the suspension was more less pushed into the chassis. Contacted Nissan they sent out an independent to assess, the vehicle was collected and we were paid out.

Dread to think what could have happened had I been towing with my 17.2hh 1Ton horse on!

I have a Pathfinder and tow my horse with it on a regular basis , i am wondering if this could also be affected ?
it is 2008 model and is basically a navara underneath anyway!

Very unlikely as the problem point is the piece of chasis that is between the rear body and the cab as salt spray has collected there due to air flow around the back of the cab. It will get checked in future at MOT as there is a tester warning gone out.
It is a easy fix if caught before actually collapsing.

l put a post on about this months ago but most people on here were already aware of this. There's some shocking pictures we know of a friend who have had theirs checked & been given a safety certificate after it was inspected.

Such a shame about Nissan, when Nissan were actually Nissan they made brilliant meaty Terrano's, then Renault became involved and it all went downhill.
