A few years ago I used to own a Shogun 2.8 and it was brilliant for towing. I am now looking to get another one (an oldish one) but currently the one I like is only a 2.5. I just want to know if this will have enough oommphh to pull the trailer with two horses in it, uphill for example, or should I look at 2.8 engine size instead. Any help appreciated.

There will be a slight loss of power obviously but it will still have loads of 'oomph' to pull you up hills. I currently tow with a 2.8 Pajero.

One thing to think about is that I believe the 2.5 has a cam belt rather than a cam chain & needs to be replaced at regular intervals which is quite costly...... even more costly if it gives way when you're driving. There are loads of 2.8s about, both LWB & SWB so I would really advise that model rather than the 2.5.
