been offered a land rover V8 LPG and was just wondering anyone else has one and od they tow with it? Someone suggested i should use the petrol when towing? Anything else should look for and what do you think of V8s in general?

Ive got a 4.6 petrol/lpg range rover for towing a ifor 510 and its great. I dont notice any difference between petrol and lpg when towing at all, the engine does run slightly hotter on lpg when pulling up a long hill but only marginally. The only difference is the price!!

Thanks for the reply, i've been offered a V8 LPG defender i think 3.5litre, never had a v8 or lpg before , always had diesels so am just trying to find as much about it as poss! Would you recommend them then? I know it's a diff litre but range rovers a heavier! What sort of MPG do you get and what do you pay for LPG? There are plenty of places round here, theres one round the corner from my house, a 24hr country wide about 5 miles away, and a place about 7 miles away that sell LPG and do conversions. I'm really tempted as its a bargain but want to know more first!

My friends to with an LPG Rangerover (OLD!) and they have never had any probs. Tows perfectly well

Other friend has a SWB Shogun LPG and they tow with gas 90% of the time and flick to petrol for long hills i think

We had a V8 3.9 petrol Disco,Pulled like a tank on gas or petrol. The thing with LPG motors the engine set up is very sensitive. Please make it has been converted profesionaly and you have to certificate and issue number (you might need to produce these for insurance aswell). When we bought ours we had the certificate and everything but something wasent quite right with the engine set up LPG to air intake ratio was out and it would backfire BIG TIME,With so much force it blew the air filter box to pieces and put a ruddy great dent in the bonnet.I personaly wouldent touch one again. When they run good they are brilliant when somethings not right they a) either cost a fortune to put right and b) not many garages will touch them. There is a big land rover dealer in cornwall and he wouldent even let us park in his car park due to having two "go up" in his workshop.
