Hi,

Can anyone help... I’m looking for a van that could tow a Ifor Williams 505 and two horses in it. I’m struggling to find a van that has a higher MAM than 2000 and to be safe I would like it to be at least 2200 or more...

Reason for wanting a van rather than 4x4 is that we also tow our boat and van could be converted to basic camper whilst taking the boat down to the coast (or more likely at the riding camps)

Any comments will be much appreciated!!!
:)

Check out the Vauxhall Movano.
We have 1 long wheelbase high top that we use for racing & tho I cannot (at present) recall the MAM we tow a good weight - and its a great vehicle for towing. V steady, not a fuel guzzler either :)
Insurance is good tho we do have to park it on the road
I also have a V.Movano horsebox (not a van but purpose built). Have also towed our caravan with it with 1 horse loaded (not in the caravan tho! :D) & again did not notice any extra 'dragging'. :)

I don't really have any helpful ideas sorry but I'll be interested to know the answer to this too as my OH was talking about it the other day. I think he was thinking of getting a bigger van like a merc sprinter, as he uses them in work and tows loads. What sort of size van are you thinking? I know someone who uses as vito for what you're wanting to do but whether or not it's legal I have no idea.

There are loads which will fulfill your needs and HERE is just one of them
Citroen Relay35 L3 H2 2.2 HDI 130ps
Gross Vehicle Weight (Kg) 3500
Kerb Weight (Kg) 1975
GTW 6000
If the van is fully loaded then it can tow an actual weight of 2500 kgs

This would require to be driven under B+E licence rules

We use a Mitsubishi delica, the seats can either be folded up to give you van size space, or folded out to make beds. Not everyone's cup of tea but I adore mine. Tows my 510 as if it's not there.

MAM isnt what you need for with towing with a van, The bit you need to know
is the gross train weight which is the total maximum your van, load and trailer can be , so you start with unladen weight add the load and how much you need to tow
this needs to be less than the Train weight (and less than the van's towing capacity if stated by the manufactura) best vans will be the 3.5 ton class like 350 transit ,as other poster movano or master, iveco daily,VW LT ,MB sprinter, all these in 3.5 ton will have a fair towing capacity and still be able to carry some weight in the van...
