I'm currently looking at buying new vehicle for towing trailer with 16.3 middleweight. Am keen on an Isuzu Trooper 3.1 and wondered if anyone has one, how do you rate them? Anything I need to look out for?

Haven't really decided on model yet. Still debating whether to go for SWB or LWB. Scouring the ads for ones with the right sort of mileage and good service history.

We had an Isuzu Trooper for 8 years. I didn't like it at all as a towing vehicle, didn't feel stable and didn't pull very well, especially up hills. We now have a Mitsubushi truck and it is so much better, certainly doesn't struggle with 2 horses in the back like the Isuzu did. But thats just my opinion.

I had an old J reg LWB 3 litre and that was great for towing, pulled 2 big horses easily and was really stable - I towed from Devon to Essex with it when I moved and it was great - loads of room inside as well. I've now got a Mitsubishi Pajero and that is good as well - LWB, 2.8 lltr automatic - the automatic makes towing very easy!

We use an old 3.1 SWB citation for towing, and its seems to tow fine. Before that we used an estate car, so obviously the Trooper is brilliant to tow with compared to that! You don't even really feel the horses on the back (with a lightweight trailer), and it never struggles to pull them uphill, out mud etc

I have had 2 Troopers and they are great towing vehicles. I had an old 3.1 and now a new one and cannot rate them highly enough. The only trouble I find is that it tows so easily that you can 'forget' you have a trailer on the back.
