following on from a thread where i asked advice on the best pickup, I have put a deposit on an 06 hilux! I need the space in the back unfortunately so the usual 4x4's wouldnt have cut it. The towing capacity is lower than the other pickups but my trailer is derated to 2tonnes anyway. I just hope Ive made the right choice, my head was spinning with the whole thing! But at the end of the day it was reliability that won out.....

I'm fairly sure that is what my farrier has and he loves his. It carries all his stuff, anvil, furnace etc in the back and is a real workhorse.

I bought a toyota hilux surf, old but everything worked, amazing condition! Drove lovely, unfortunately my trailer mam is 2600Kg and at the time I didn't realise they only tow 2250Kg! So it had to go! But a lovely car and they go on and on!!!!

oh thats a shame! cos you couldve derated your trailer like we did , means you have a smaller capacity for load though so no useif you want to tow 2 horses.

the book says the hilux can tow 2250kg but its plated at 2.8 !?

Its no coincidence that the Taleban use Hiluxs as they are so reliable and easy to maintain. They tried to destroy one on Top Gear, but even after being dumped in the sea, set on fire, etc. it still started!

My dad has had 3 Hiluxes on the farm, we started with them many moons ago before they became that common and all have been absolutely fantastic and incredibly reliable! I have just got a defender to tow my trailer with because I want to tow two horses so hilux just wasnt going to do it, which is unfortunate! I hope yours is as good for you as ours have been for us!

i've got an M reg Hilux Surf - it came over from Japan last year with only 60,000miles on the clock and looking pretty immaculate. it's cost me £1500 since then (and that's at mates rates) but hopefully now it's got it's major breaking out of the way it should go on for ever. I love driving it and it's fab towing. I dont even notice a 505 and one horse on the back and it pulls 2 pretty easily too. They dont have a plate inside showing exactly what they can legally tow as they were never used for towing in Japan which is kinda handy! Suspect it's the same as the British hilux but they're not exactly the same so am quite happy towing about 2.1tonnes with it.

Toyota Toyota Toyota!!!!!!!!!!

oh im very excited!!!yaay!

tbh, its costing rather more than i wanted or had, but have taken a gamble on it being a long term investment , given my renault has cost me £1500 this summer!!!!

Glad you went for a Hilux, must admit we love ours, we've only had it a few months but will definitely go for an Invincible next time which is 200bhp.

We tow a tonne and a half of crush around every day with our Hilux doing at least 25k miles a year, and so far it has outperformed the Ford Ranger we had before by miles!

You'll love it!

We have an 11 plate Hilux and really rate it. I've only towed with it a few times but been impressed with it - it feels very sturdy and well built and is comfortable for long journeys. One of the reasons we chose it was because the back seats are so much more comfortable with better leg room than other picks ups. My son had an 09 Ranger which ran well but the back seats were cramped. He now has a 2012 Ranger which has all the toys and gadgets you could ever want and drives nicely but I still feel the Hilux is more substantially built and imagine it will last longer.

we've got one a 54 plate invincible. it never brakes down and travels everywhere around the farm.
just remeber its rear wheel drive and will slip and slide:D in wet or icy weather if you like puttting you foot down on bends:eek:  :D:D:D

nice to see my old thread resurrected and I hope Im not going to jinx things by saying this - but i still have this truck and love it to bits, highly recommend:cool:

We have got a 1992 four door pickup imported from Japan many years ago. It is a damn good workhorse that cost us £5 for the last MOT.
To drive in the snow we do add weight to the back to keep it more stable but boy have we done some miles on and off road with it

Have just been looking at these, fancy a change and might be tempted to get the Invincible. Good to see they are recommended.

Sorry but I HATE my OH's hilux with a passion!!! It is an 11 plate and the most uncomfortable thing ever! had no box on the back so the pick up bit eas useless to anything you wanted to keep dry and god forbid you need to park it somewhere! Rattle rattle shake shake, teeth jarring thing! - runs away to hide! ;-)

I dont have one but have been rescued twice(got stuck in my car) in snow ice mud etc by the same lovely one! Pulled me out with ease.

Would like one myself and seems a bit of a work horse. Good luck a good choice. Our local farmers use them so they must be pretty good things.
