Trace Clips

I have been thinking about giving my heavy cob mare (Mae) a trace clip, im really dreading about putting clippers near her, im an old fashioned person who believes that cobs shouldnt have scissors or clippers anywhere near them.

However when ive been riding her, shes been sweating up really badly, takes her ages to cool down again. I do have the time to wait about and cool her down.

Took her to the beach yesterday, we walked half way down the beach (its about 1/2 mile long) and trotted the rest, trotted half way up again and then cantered to the box. We walked about for about 20 minutes before boxing her. Yet she was still really sweaty but had to be off beach by 9am and it was already after that and had national trust guy bugging us.

Today she got 15 minutes of trotting and was pure sweaty, its not like her as i know shes fitter than that, she still wanted to go but with the sweat i didnt want to push her!

Took me about 20-30 minutes walking to cool her again.
 
you should not clip for appearence,you should clip for welfare reasons.
after all,if you done vigorous exercise,you would want to take some layers off.
would you go jogging wrapped in a duvet?
 
Although I'm not riding at the moment, my instructor rides and a friend hacks my boy out, despite being quite fit, he still sweats up, so I did a trace clip on him and that has done the trick.

Normally, he would have a hunter clip, but is not doing enough work to warrant that. So, I'd go for the trace or even a bib.
 
Im putting my own feelings aside to think of her, noticed that even when stabled and not rode that day, she sweats up.

Shes alot fitter now and enjoys heading out. After cooling her down again i let her walk around the arena as she likes a good roll before coming in, however she takes off cantering and gets herself all sweaty again lol.
