I posted a little while ago about a permanent tracheotomy, and im happy to say that my boy had the surgery on Wednesday and is doing brilliantly!

He can breathe easy and looks so happy, box rest until the stiches come out then a good bit of Dr.Green just in time for summer.

No decent photos yet but just in case anyone is interested in what it looks like......look away if your squeamish :p

You can see the indent where the hole is, slight swelling above and below.

Underneath the hole is a drain which has now come out, and his catheter to the left for his meds

What a gorgeous horse, so glad he's ok. What's his story or have you posted about him before (in which case will look at your old threads) :)

No collar CPT just the hole, it will need cleaning daily for a couple of months and he will be stabled until the stitches come out. After that it will take minimal Maintenence.

I can see its improved his health already he's not making any noise ( previously sounded like a rattling darth vader!) you also can't SEE him breathing anymore, I've been struggling to get any condition on him as he was using all his energy in breathing. I can't wait for him to come home and to see how he progresses, he will be my black beauty :)

This is him when he first arrived,it's this spirit that keeps me fighting for him!

Dear OP
When our horse had this done all those years ago, I can still remember the first ride afterwards. He just kept going, and going. Before he could hardly canter at all.
Good Luck!

Thank you, I will be happy if he can happily walk up to the field ( he's not broken yet) but we have all that to look forward to once he's in good health.
