tracing dam and sire (barnstaple)

Hi i know this isn't a breeding question per say, but have tried posting it on the lost horses/stolen section and have had no joy so here it goes:

i own a mare who was sired by a fresian stallion in the barnstaple area (devon) she is now 12. From what i know there were two stallions in the area at this time and her sire died of colic. Her dam was a chestnut thoroughbred ex-racehorse with three white socks. i would dearly love to know a bit more of her breeding history as i have just put her to a stallion.
does anyone know anything? as i said i know its a long shot!!

Have you tried going through the people you bought her from to ge thte details or name of the people they bought her from and so on until you get back to her breeder? Is there no other clues??

the poeple i bought her from are quite vague in some ways. they own over 30 horses and keep them all as pets. they never envisaged getting rid of her and so never bothered to keep her paperwork safe!!! numptys!!!

They only had the details of the dam, and each time i have asked i get told 'oh i remember i did have some paperwork but i dont think i could find it again' to be honest i've given up on them.

They had her from the age of 9 months old, she was transported to cornwall from barnstaple by the breeder (i think), and came straight from her dam to her previous owner, then to me.
i have tried and tried to plug her (the old owner) for information but all i get is that they couldn't get the name of the stallion when they tried and they've lost the paperwork so i shouldn't bother!!!!!

they are now a no go area because they have been pestering me for 2 years to sell her back because they want to breed a horse from her (and they have 30 perfectly healthy ones stood in the field aleady!!) so i told them in the end non too politely that hell would freeze over first (she was not good when i got her)

anyway enough of my ranting (sorry) in answer to your question no, tried it and i just hit a brick wall. Mainly because he was a registered stallion and should not have been bred with anything that was not fresian.

Contact the fresian society and ask what stallions were stood in that area the year she was concieved and if not too many (which I wouldn't have thought there wopuld be) you could ask for DNA tests to be done, if she comes back being by one stallion you can then ask is there any mares that stallion covered in that year that didn't have their foals registered.
