tracing history though hooves?

i own a lovley (if complex) little section A but have no history on him apart from the home i brought him from (close friend & HHO member) untill she got him he had no passport/chip/F'mark ect to trace him through.

he is a very nondescript grey so no very distinguishing marks on him a such but he does have very distintive hooves, stripey in two very strong opposing colours. do you think if i posted photos of them old owners/YO's ect... might reconise them & therefore him & help me trace his history?
