We have a Tractive. They usually have Black Friday deals, but don’t know if that’s just on the tracker or the subscription or both. We pay a subscription of £120 every 2 years for premium service.

We looked at the non-subscription Pit Pat but didn’t feel it was right for us due to limited functionality compared with the Tractive.

I have the tractive XL. Too big for my 20kg whippet really, but he only has it on for walks and the battery lasts a month. I've never had an issue with no signal, but i dont think anywhere in oxfordshire is ever that remote tbh. I pay £12 a month for it or thereabouts.

I have tractives too. I did buy a pitpat when I got dog 2 but the difference between the tractive and pitpat was huge. The tractive would find and be live tracking when the pitpat couldn’t connect or get a signal.
I sent it back and to be fair the no quibble returns process is very easy and fast.
I have a regular tractive on a lab and a mini cat on my terrier. They track the same but the fastenings are different.

Air tags rely on nearby iPhones to get their signal. Perfect in a city or airport, probably not bad in a town or village but they would be next to useless in a rural or quiet area.
I'm not sure they're reliant on iPhones. And living in a quiet rural area, and often walking in the middle of nowhere find they work very well.

Exactly the same here, I originally bought a Pit Pat and it just wasn't finding her. Easy to return and refund, and I bought a Tractive which has worked fine.

I think all trackers by the nature of the technology will fail at some point some where to connect/ locate depending on location/ signal. But what is useful about Tractive is because it records historical data, even if you can’t get an immediate “live” connection for some reason, at least you know where they have been on the last connection and can get an idea of what direction they maybe heading. The free subscription trackers such as PitPat only show “live”, so if you can’t connect you really have no idea where your dog may be. I also like that you can set up geofences with Tractive to alert you when your dog goes out of a “safe” area or into a “no go” zone.
AirTags are not suitable for animals for lots of reasons - Apple even say not to use them on pets.
