I have a yard with 13 acres which I harrow etc and I have now got the funds to invest in an ATV of some description. Which would you recommend a small tractor or a quad?

( I have a megre budget of about £1500)

You may be able to find an old International 414 or somthing similar within your budget.I had one for many trouble free years.

Try getting a(free)copy of Farmers Guide (tel 01473 691888)
It has lots of dealers and private sales .You could put an ad in the wanted section too.
Look in the vintage section.Even a Massey Ferguson 135 is now considered vintage.(MF 135 ,best small tractor ever built)
In the april issue there was one for£2100 ono. Parts are still readilly available.

Tractor - I've had both. Quad first but every impliment has to be powered and is dearer than for tractor. Only real use was towing. Now I have a compact tractor - just make sure you don't get one too small - you really need 20HP or more.

i had a tractor for years, swapped to a gator, for what i do it is so much better. feeding daily, taking hay and bedding around etc. powerful enough to pull a harrow, and i put big tubtrugs in the back and use it as a motorised wheelbarrow to poo-pick 5 acres 2x daily with no problems... i was rubbish about doing it with tractor because it was such a faff, getting on and off, big trailer, etc etc. for really big jobs such as fertilising, moving field shelters, etc i get the local farmer to come and do it with a big tractor. day to day the gator is absolutely perfect.

We had a tractor for 18 acres and would no way have been able to do everything we wanted with a quad.
ours was able to roll, harrow, lift huge bales of haylage, top the fields- we even used it to pull the field shelter over once when it blew away in a storm!
