What would you recommend for general yard work (field harrowing, school maintenance etc?) a small tractor or a quad?

Thanks

Tractor safer and more sutable for yard work and have a PTO so you could run a topper mower etc and also hydrolics for tipping a trailer if you need to.. also not so atractive to theives .... I have a Kubota it is just about the most usefull thing ive got...

Tractor definately ,preferably with a fore loader.Red diesel is so much cheaper than petrol.Get someone to show you how to use it properly and safely.

We've got a 28 BHP Kubota & it's fab. Harrows the fields, grades the school, fetches & carries, has a plough thing for digging...

I have both, the ATV is used mainly as a nippy runabout around the farm, but also for harrowing, logging, for the muck trailer, hay to fields etc, drags an 18' trailer about for shifting hay, fence panels etc.

The tractor does all the topping, cutting, raking, pushing/pulling down trees, logging, digging holes etc. Both have snow ploughs. I wouldn't be without either of them.

Totally off point and useless but since having a go of a friends New Holland AC 7000 tractor... I WANT ONE!!!!! Also having used quads a lot ...I 'd go for a tractor everytime!

I've got a quad, i have harrows for it for the fields and the menage, and a self propelled topper for topping the fields.

I looked at tractors, but i live in an area that is clay based, and most tractors chew up the ground in spring when i want to top off the buttercups. The quad is light enough to do the job when the grounds a touch wet, without damaging the ground.

Have both, but it depends what job you are doing as to preference.

The quad doesn't have PTO but the muck trailer has electric hydraulics to tip and the grass flail is self driven so you just tow it

Quad is much more fun!

Round us, quads are just an invitation to thieves - so if you are thinking about getting one you need a VERY secure shed to store it in. There's lots of implements available for quads now (including toppers with on board engine) and they are very nippy. But in general it is cheaper to pick up, say a second hand topper or fert spreader for a tractor.
You should be able to buy a Chinese or similar tractor which is completely adequate for yard work for less than £5k.
If money is no object - get a John Deere, best for quality and way coolest

. They actually do an 'economy' one now which is about 30hp and comes with a loader.

Thanks for that info. I want to top etc so I think a tractor might be the best way to go (although my heart says quad

thanks again
